Bigger This is hell.

Live from the United States, where capitalism is the virus, this is hell, which is one tagline among dozens that we use on this show.

But considering the topic of today's conversation, maybe a more appropriate or more accurate opening would be live from

planet Earth, where the military industrial complex is the virus. This is hell. If and when you do

think about the military industrial complex, you might first think of President Dwight D. Eisenhower's

farewell address on January 17, 1961, when Ike warned the country, this conjunction of an immense military establishment in a large arms industry is new in the American experience, yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications.

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition

of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought by the military industrial complex. The potential

for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. And wow, has the world experienced

the disastrous rise of misplaced power lately.

However, you might also think that because U.S. President Eisenhower's warning was for the people of the U.S.,

that the military industrial complex is also bound to the limits of a single nation.

Granted, the leading military superpower, but still one country, the United States of America.

Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Militarization has gone global, the same way it went nationwide here in the States.

And that is, by the arms industry guaranteeing political influence through the placement of defense contractors

or subcontractors or military installations in every congressional district and now globally
