| 0:12.5 | Now as usual on Wednesdays, our lead Eric Adams reporter, Elizabeth Kim, |
| 0:17.6 | with excerpts from, analysis of, and to take your calls about the mayor's weekly Tuesday news conference. |
| 0:23.8 | Hey, Liz, happy Wednesday. |
| 0:25.4 | Happy Wednesday, Brian. |
| 0:27.1 | And I guess we have to start with the big news that broke after the news conference yesterday, |
| 0:32.5 | which is that school's chancellor, David Banks, has joined the ever-growing list of resignations within the Adams |
| 0:38.6 | administration. Why did he say he's stepping down? The school's chancellor said that this was a |
| 0:44.5 | retirement. He is 62 years old, but it was really hard not to view this resignation in the context |
| 0:53.4 | of, you know, of what's happening around both the school's |
| 0:58.7 | chancellor and the mayor. You know, as we know about three weeks ago, the chancellor had his |

| 1:18.8 | phone seized. And his brother, who is the deputy mayor for public safety, Phil Banks, also had |
| 1:24.4 | his phone seized. So all of this is happening, you know, not long in the same |
| 1:30.1 | month, essentially, that, you know, all of this has been happening around these intensifying |
| 1:37.3 | investigations. And it also comes not long after the health commissioner, Dr. Ashwin Vassan, announced that he was going to step down sometime early next year. He made that announcement on Monday. What I would say, you know, in terms of all of these departures, you know, we've also had the police commissioner resign. We've had the mayor's chief counsel abruptly resign over a weekend without leaving any notice. |
| 2:06.7 | I would say, though, the departure of the school's chancellor is in some ways a bigger deal along. It sort of matches that of the police commissioner because in terms of public profile, I think, you know, it's right under police commissioner. |
| 2:22.9 | You know, the confidence in the school system is what encourages new families to move to the city. |
| 2:28.9 | It is also what keeps families from moving to the suburbs. |
| 2:33.1 | So I think this is a very big shakeup for Mayor |
| 2:37.5 | Adams. But unlike the police commissioner, David Banks is not stepping down immediately. He announced |
