So joining me today for The Untold Story podcast is Lucas Tomlinson, our correspondent who is just back from covering the war in Ukraine and covers the Pentagon for Fox News and has a deep history and understanding of the U.S. military through his own experiences as well.

So, Lucas, I really want to thank you for talking with us and kind of sharing a reporter's notebook story about your own experiences just back from Lviv, Ukraine.

So, you know, I think that I like to take the opportunity in these podcasts to kind of let people get to know our reporters and people who are

part of our team here a little bit better. So can you kind of go back and explain to everybody,

you know, for instance, where'd you grow up and why did you decide that you wanted to go to Annapolis and be in the Navy and join the military?

Well, Martha, I was born in Washington, D.C., but I was raised in Chappaqua, New York, in Westchester County, a fairly famous small town now just outside New York City, just to the north.

And I knew my whole life life I thought about public service and how I could give back. My uncle had gone to the Naval

Academy. My late mother was from Mississippi and visiting down there, seeing his room, seeing the

uniforms, your book. It just, it always had some appeal.

And going to sports camps and just the closer I got in high school,

it was just something I was very interested in.

And it ended up being a great fit.

In the Navy, Annapolis was an incredible experience.

And in the Navy, I had a good fortune to deploy twice aboard a warship, counterdrug operations, in the Caribbean and South America, and also to Europe on a NATO deployment.

But believe it or not, one of the most meaningful deployments was to Afghanistan about 10 years ago in 2011 with an army unit,

third brigade combat team, 10th Mountain Division as part of a human terrain team.
