Hey everyone! This epsiode was probably one of the top 3 episodes that I got positive feedback from, so I am reposting it! If you have already heard it, I think its even worth a re-listen!
In this episode, we discuss the idea that true weight loss begins with self-acceptance. Many people believe that the key to weight loss is simply eating less and exercising more, but this narrow view ignores the underlying emotional and psychological factors that contribute to weight gain.
We explore the concept of treating ourselves with kindness and compassion when it comes to our bodies and our weight.
We discuss the importance of developing a healthy relationship with food, rather than viewing food as a source of comfort or punishment. We also talk about the benefits of mindfulness and self-compassion in weight loss efforts, and how to move away from a focus on perfection and self-criticism and towards a more positive, accepting attitude towards oneself.

0:00.0 | Hello everybody. Welcome to the podcast. I have been deciding what I wanted to talk about this week. And it's a good day to |
0:26.3 | record this podcast because this is something I'm trying to fully embrace right now and every |
0:31.4 | day for the year of 2023. But a couple, maybe a week ago or so, I shared that I like to choose a word for the year. |
0:39.9 | So last year I chose, I knew what I wanted to do. |
0:43.6 | And like the sentence I would have given you was, I want to become more of myself. |
0:48.5 | And I'll get into that. |
0:49.3 | But I would say that my word for 2022 was authenticity. |
0:52.9 | So for the year of 2023, the word that I chose |
0:56.4 | was acceptance and even more specifically self-acceptance. So I want to talk a little bit today |
1:01.9 | about how that will be so helpful in your weight loss journey, in your, honestly, in your |
1:09.7 | happiness journey. I talk a lot about not waiting until you |
1:14.1 | lose weight to feel happy and to feel better about yourself. And I don't think a lot of people |
1:17.5 | believe me because I posted something on TikTok where people were like, no, I really believe |
1:21.5 | once I lose weight, all of my problems will go away. And so it's important that we talk about |
1:25.6 | the fact that that's not how it works. But I do |
1:27.8 | feel like cultivating an attitude of acceptance and self-acceptance and understanding why you're |
1:33.4 | doing what you're doing is a way that you can feel better now. And to make sure that you're running |
1:40.3 | things through a specific filter that allows you to see if what you're doing and how |
1:46.3 | you're showing up is in line with what you ultimately want for yourself. So a word for the year, |
1:51.1 | I think of as a type of umbrella. It's an umbrella that kind of covers everything with where |
1:58.6 | you're headed. And I do kind of like the lack of specificity. |
2:02.6 | I talk to my clients often about specific is terrific. The more specific the better. But I like |
