I'm very pleased today to be joined by Third District Arizona Congressman Ruben Gallego,

a candidate of the Democratic Party for the United States Senate, one of the most interesting members of Congress currently serving of the 435, a person that I regard as somebody

who is an idealist, a conviction-based politician in an era of cynicism, precisely the type of person

that you want in public service. I don't think that politics should be

an issue litmus test. It should be a character-based enterprise. And so that's why I'm so pleased

I want to start with your first government service.

Take us back to arriving at Marine Corps Recruit Depot.

Were you West Coast or were you at Paris Island? I was at Paris Island.

And take us to that moment where the bus pulls into the Paris Island gates with 20-year-old

Ruben-Guyah aboard?

20, yeah.

I mean, I was excited.

This is something that I had always wanted to do.

I wanted to serve my country.

And, you know, I joined,

you know, pre-9-11 because, you know, not that I wanted to go to war, not that I did not want to go to war, but I, you know, wanted to repay my country in a small way. And that small way I thought about

was being in the Marine Corps reserves. You know,

I'm the son of immigrants and through ups and downs, you know, a lot at that point in my life,
