their citizenship fully understands what they're getting into. Obtaining what is called a

certificate of loss of nationality requires two separate interviews with the consulate, a vetting process,

and a formal oath of renunciation.

And this can take months.

Now, as you know, I was born in Brazil.

Maybe you don't know, but I was born in Brazil, and my parents were Brazilian citizens.

And in those days, and they came in the United States in the 1950s, the world didn't really respect dual nationality.
