Okay, this is the FDA, Food and Drug Administration, withdrew a proposed rule that would have barred all Americans under the age of 18 from using tanning beds.

In other words, they put on the books and they had a law that teenagers, anybody under 18, cannot use tanning beds.

And now the Food and Drug Administration yanked that.

It wasn't a law.

It was a policy.

And the Food and Drug Administration yanked that rule.

Goodbye.

But dozens of states, including California and Delaware, Illinois and a few other ones,

already banned the use of tanning beds for minors, so it doesn't affect those states. And some have

restrictions that allow teens to use tanning beds with parental consent. But if there are no laws

on the books, then kids under the age of 18 can go ahead and use tanning beds.

And theoretically, you know, you can put infants in there.

Of course, no one would.

And there's no tanning business that would ever allow that.

Here is the problem with tanning beds, how dangerous they can be. They can emit as much as 15

times the amount of ultraviolet radiation than direct sun rays. You go out in the sun, hot day,

and you're going to get UV light and you're going to get burnt. You know, if you stay around long

enough. Well, these tanning beds do 15 times the amount.

And, of course, the exposure to sunlight, UV rays damages the DNA in skin cells and can

trigger changes that cause skin cancer.
