In case you've missed it, last week got their weeks of negotiating an infrastructure proposal with Republicans,

President Biden rejected the Republicans' latest $928 billion proposal

after he originally proposed $ 2.2 trillion. It's been clear for some time now

that there was never going to be a bipartisan deal. So I know a lot of Democrats are

wondering why I go through all of this when you know that you're not

going to get a deal done and you can't get a deal done with only Democratic votes?

The answer is moderate Senate Democrats Democrats and that goes beyond Joe

Manchin and Kristen Cinema. In order for them to feel comfortable politically

enough to vote for a big bill where you spend this much money, there has to be a perception that they

attempted to be bipartisan even when they know Republicans won't vote with them.

And so instead of a bold transformative bill, a lot of my moderate friends use Republican

negotiations as covered to support smaller, less transformative water-down bills. It's the same reason why this group of Democrats support what folks like
