cinema recently did an interview where she said among other things,

the filibuster in the Senate was necessary to quote protect democracy.

Well, as folks in Arizona know, I've long been a supporter of the filibuster because it is a tool

that protects the democracy of our nation, rather than allowing our country to ricoche wildly every two to four years back and forth between policies.

The idea of the filibuster was created by those who came before the United States Senate to create

comity and to encourage senators to find bipartisanship and work together.

Now let me be clear and use my legal degree here to tell you that this is bullshit and

y'all know it's bullshit and as we've noted on episodes before when we hosted experts on

the filibuster its roots and its use have often been used

to block progress, particularly bills that would enhance the civil rights of black Americans.

Senator Sentemma's Schoolhouse Rocks explanation of the filibuster may work in Arizona for now, but as things stand, the filibuster is standing in the way of police reform, voting rights legislation, gun control proposals.
