Sam Borden, where are we starting this story?

I want to start with where I was on Tuesday morning.

Tuesday morning in Santos here, which is a port city on the southern coast.

It's about 20 miles or so from São Paulo.

Sam Borden is ESPN's global sports correspondent,

and he has been in Brazil covering the funeral of Pale,

arguably the biggest sports star that ever lived.

Santos is this city on the ocean,

and it has these channels, these canals that run through it.

And on Tuesday morning, I was near what they call Canal Seas, Channel 6.

And I was standing in front of Pale's family's house,

where Pale's 100-year-old mother still lives.

And there were about 3,000 people on the street in front of the house.

And this crowd of thousands was waiting because, any moment now,

Pale's body was making its final tour around the city.

The coffin was on top of a fire truck and had left the stadium

and was making its way through the city of Santos.

And there are fans of Santos the club

and they're waving these giant flags and they're singing Santos songs.

And they're shouting out to Pale's family,

and they're throwing roses over the fence onto the lawn

in front of Pale's family's house.
