Summary

It's a man's world- and girls have to be tough to win- especially at sports which require size and strength- like horse racing. In its 135 year history only three fillies have won the Kentucky Derby, which is a race held once every year on the first Saturday in May featuring the fastest three year-olds in racing. Trainer D. Wayne Lucas had tried to win with fillies before and lost badly- the girl horses just don't have the strength and stamina to last that mile and 1/8th distance, and most of the odds makers don't give them any attention. But Winning Colors had the size, the strength, and the heart to win. And trainer Lucas believed in her. Maybe this time...... 0:57.4	when winning colors won it for the girls. This story centers around a very talented girl who beat the boys at their own game and won the Kentucky Derby,
1:07.0	the most prestigious horse race in the US and one dominated by males.

1:14.5	Philly named Winning Colors. The odds of any Philly winning the Kentucky Derby are
1:20.1	very low because male and female horses, like people, are built different. But every now and then a girl comes along and turns the
1:28.2	racing world upside down and that's what winning Colors did in 1988.
