This weekend unfortunately marked the passing of another one of the great

photographers of our lifetime a gentleman named Bill Cunningham who passed away

after having a stroke this week at the age of 87 Bill Cunningham was a very very unique photographer to say the least.

He is best known for the work he did for the New York Times for literally decades.

He had two columns that he was known for, one called On the Street, and the other was called the evening hours.

And his style of photography was very interesting in that it combined elements of fashion curation, the ability to write, and also the ability

to not only make images, but seek out trends in fashion, particularly on the street with the public with what was popular in New York.

And I think it's really amazing what he was able to do with a very specific subject over many years of working.

And like I said, there will never be another Bill Cunningham.

He was something very different and something very unique.

He got his start actually as a journalist and moved into photography later and to be able

to explore one subject like that your entire career. For instance, earlier this, or last week I did a video and I talked about project-based

photography and photographers who tend to have careers that are marked by specific projects that they do.

And I think what's interesting about Bill Cunningham is you're looking at an

individual who spent his entire career basically on one specific project and to be able to dig

that deep with it and with Bill Cunningham, Photography was not about techniques,

what kind of film, what kind of camera,

shutter speeds, F-Stop's, anything like that.

It wasn't about rule of thirds.

It wasn't about rule of thirds. It wasn't about you
