Summary

This week on the podcast we are joined by another dynamic sibling duo, our old friends Eddie and Riley Breckenridge of the post-hardcore band, Thrice! After Jonah gives a quick update on Partygate, we talk about what it's like to be in a band with your brother, Riley's college baseball career and Eddie's barista tips. We also discuss what it was like to go to the same high school as Rage Against The Machine and if their teachers got mad if they wouldn't do what they told them. Finally, we get into our topic, which was supposed to be not thinking through situations, but turns out to be a lot of stories about water balloons. Trust us, when we say that these two guests have thrown (or launched) a water balloon at almost every location in Southern California. Look out! Finally in a stadium food themed version of YESTOLGIA OR NOSTALGIA, we debate the culinary prowess of Helmet Nachos, Cotton Candy Burritos and Cannoli Nachos. Don't forget to check out Thrice's latest album "Horizons/West" and catch them on tour when they come to your town!

Hi, I'm Vanessa Bayer and this is my brother Jonah.

0:06.1

We're two siblings who love to talk about childhood and nostalgia and how it shaped us into the people we are today.

0:11.0

And oh, brother, are we excited for today's guests?

Welcome to How Did We Get Weird. Jonah, I know we've got to keep talking about this, this hot news about you calling the cops on the party in high school because we've gotten even

0:39.1

more updates kind of in real time. And you are able to talk to your, what should we call him,

0:46.4

your co-conspirator. Yeah, Arthur, yeah. So I actually ended up connecting with Arthur

0:52.6

through sort of through this podcast.

0:56.0

I ran to a mutual friend of ours when I was in Cleveland over Thanksgiving. He connected me with Arthur.

1:00.6

I hadn't talked to Arthur in probably like 20 years.

1:03.3

And just to remind our listeners, you went to this party with Arthur, the chaperone, the college chaperone, whose identity we do have, but we will not share here,

1:14.3

kicked you guys out, you guys were hurt, and you and Arthur decided to call the cops.

1:19.2

Yes.

1:20.1

Yeah.

1:20.3

So I connected with Arthur.

1:23.7

Vanessa, I know you were requesting a formal statement.

1:27.3

I was. I was. And you were saying that would sound, that would be an insane thing. I think it's already weird to be like, hey, I haven't talked to it in 20 years. Do you remember this time we called the cops on our friends? I'm doing a podcast about it. But on top of that, yeah, I felt like the statement was asking a lot, but I will say

1:46.0

that we did text about it a little bit. And one thing that Arthur brought up that I forgot was

1:50.5

a big contributing factor. I guess we were debating it for a while, calling the police.

1:56.1

Okay. Okay. Interesting. So I don't, I kind of remember that. I think we were going back and forth

2:00.4

because we didn't want our friends to get in trouble.

2:02.5

And I think a huge contributing factor was that no one stuck up for us. Like we got kicked out and no one said like, you should let them stay or they're okay. Everyone just kind of stood there and let the babysitter kick us out. And I think the fact that no one stood up for us made us feel like it was okay for them to sort of be casualties caught in the crossfire.

2:21.1

Right. kick us out and I think the fact that no one stood up for us made us feel like it was okay for
