Summary

This week on the podcast we are joined by our old friend and the host of Steven's Untitled Rock Show on Fuse, Steven Smith! We talk about why Steven hired Jonah to be the head writer on his show despite the fact that he had no television writing experience, recount Steven's iconic roles on '90s TV shows like "California Dreams" and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and hear about his experience being on the first season of "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy." We also get deep into Steven's admiration of "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" and what made it such a groundbreaking show. Finally, we play a round of CHANGE DOT DORK where we collectively debate if music should be allowed at study hall, is there room in the candy aisle for the return of ZOURS and is a reboot of "The Sauce" worth your digital signature? Whether you're a fan of Steven's hosting, acting or podcasting, you'll learn something new about him—and possibly something new about yourself in the process—just by listening to this podcast. What more could you ask for, really?

reason why I was able to live in New York for 11 years. I moved to New York in 2007 from Cleveland.

My band had just broken up. I had been quit my job to tour with this band. And I moved to New York,

didn't really have a job, went on all these weird kind of interviews. I interviewed with an auction

house that was selling the Jackson families, some of their material, but the Jackson family was

0:59.9

fighting them. So they were like, go through these books and look for clothes that match up with this

1:04.5

so we can sell them. Didn't take that job. Had it interviewed Astor Wines. I remember this.

1:10.4

And had to take a test where I had to

1:12.3

like do the accents on the wines. Didn't get that job. I think I failed the test. And then

1:16.8

our guest today I had known he hired me to write for a TV show that he hosted on Fuse. I had

1:23.6

never written for television before. And that kind of got my foot in the door there.

1:27.7

And so then I was able to make money so I could pay rent and live.

1:31.9

And so that was awesome.

1:33.4

And so, yeah, internally thankful to today's guests for kind of getting me on that train.

1:37.8

Yeah.

1:38.2

Did you start just writing sort of freelance and then start?

1:42.6

Yeah.

1:43.2

Well, I had been the music editor at AP and then I started freelancing.
