I'm Mary Meckley and I welcome you back to day four of our series on brain health and your breath. In this week's series you are exploring a different breathing technique in each episode and these are breathing techniques that have been around for many years, like a few thousand years, to help calm your mind and

body. Many of the techniques are classic yoga meditation techniques for your breath.

And when you are able to manage your breath, you are able to manage your emotional state and that can be valuable in these days of

uncertainty with all that's going on in the world right now.

So as you do today's breathing technique, pay close attention to where you hold your emotions in your body.

The breathing technique I'll be sharing with you is called the Durga Prana Yama breathing technique.

And this helps to calm your mind and your body and it also helps to expand how you optimize each inhale.

When you do this breathing technique, you inhale through your nose and you'll feel your

abdomen begin to expand

and then you'll feel your ribcage begin to expand

and then you'll feel your ribcage begin to expand

as you draw the inhale upward all the way

to the point between your eyebrows where your spiritual eye is referred to in yoga and meditation. And as you do this, you give a powerful dose of oxygen to your body cells.

It's as if a wave of oxygen sweeps through your body

and as you exhale you will feel the wave reverse.

Your chest begins to relax your ribcage and your abdomen sink back downward as you release tension and toxins. I invite you to practice feeling this effect within you right
