This week we're talking episode eight of the courtship and of Temptation Island as both romantic journeys wind closer and closer to their inevitable conclusions.

1:13.9

Plus we're talking about bachelor season 24 ladies, Maddie Pruitt and McKenna Dorn both hard launching their new boyfriend's on Instagram with what I would say is mixed success and impact.

1:44.9

Hey, thank you guys so much for having me.

1:47.9

Thanks for joining us so excited to get into it before we get into the more fun stuff like there.

1:54.9

There is no good way to transition in and out of this topic, but we haven't done a podcast since the news broke that the Supreme Court would likely be imminently overturning Roe v Wade.

2:09.9

And so we did want to talk about that before we get into the fun stuff because this is an issue that is feels very personal to us that we're very passionate about and something that has obviously been weighing on us and a lot of people in and outside of our community.

2:31.9

So essentially what happened is that a leaked opinion draft written by Justice Alito was published by Politico last week and it indicated that the court had voted and would be not only stripping away the right to abortion access.

2:48.9

And also kind of laying the legal groundwork for a really, really brutal rollback of a number of vital rights that have been really hard one rights like contraception access gay marriage, interracial marriage access to pornography things that sort of rust on a legal bedrock about the right to privacy.

3:10.9

Yeah, this draft decision really goes in on the right to privacy and there are a lot of rights that we consider pretty important and fundamental that the Supreme Court decisions upholding them rested on a right to privacy.

3:23.9

And so this is a really, really terrifying potential draft if we were to see a similar draft to this be the final decision that's handed down, you know, that would look like the prelude to a really brutal crackdown on a number of important rights.

3:40.9

And we're obviously also just like horrified by what looks like a very clear new assault on the right to abortion access. I mean, that's an assault that's been ongoing, you know, states have been trying to chip away around the margins.

3:56.9

And this would be a green light to push really much further ahead with restricting abortion access many states already have trigger laws or pre-row laws on the books, which would go into effect the minute that the decision came down and ban abortion in those states.

4:12.9

And states are also pushing really extreme legislation to cut further and further into reproductive health access and reproductive health care rights. So it's, it's a really, you know, terrifying and what's been like an ongoing terrifying battle for like reproductive autonomy.

4:33.9

I think that, you know, neither of us were surprised by this decision or by this draft. I don't think that anyone who's really been paying attention to what has been going on in this country is surprised.

4:47.9

I think that that really doesn't change kind of what it feels like when the asteroid that's been like hovering above us, plummets to Earth, like it was it felt very personal and very painful.
