Hi, David Brancaccio here. This week on Marketplace Morning Report, I was asked to share a personal

story. My wife and I worked on a plan to move back to California with two of our offspring living in the

Golden State. In November, we made that dream a reality when we purchased a cozy bungalow in the city of Altadena.

Just a few weeks later, our home, along with so many thousands of others, is in ruins, total loss.

This week, we return to survey what little the wildfire left and to start planning what might be next for us.

I'm learning a lot, and some of it may be useful to others rebuilding after disaster from

cleaning up the mess to navigating insurance, mortgages, taxes, to securing contractors and more.

Planning for a world where human intelligence isn't in charge.

I'm Megan McCarty Carrino. Artificial general intelligence, or AGII, has long been the holy grail of innovation,

a synthetic intelligence with all the capabilities of a human mind or more.

Recent advances in AI have many predicting we could

be closer to achieving it than we're ready for. It's a reality that preoccupied the late

diplomat Henry Kissinger. Before he died last year at 100, he collaborated with Eric Schmidt,

formerly of Google, and Craig Mundy, formerly of Microsoft,

on the new book Genesis, Artificial Intelligence, Hope, and the Human Spirit.

Mundy joined us to discuss what a future with superintelligence might look like.

As it relates to the government issues, it affects many things.

It could have, as we've seen in the applications

to misinformation, people can use it to try to affect how democracies work. On the other hand,
