| 1:00.6 | I think all of us suppress urges and pulses and emotions at times when we think that expressing |

| 1:08.4 | This kind of restraint is often appropriate and perfectly healthy. |
| 1:12.7 | So for example, if your coworker says something infuriating, you may suppress your anger |
| 1:17.8 | temporarily so that you don't flip the table and take time to figure out how you want to |
| 1:23.6 | handle the situation wisely to preserve your job. |
| 1:27.5 | However, if we use suppression as our primary way of regulating our emotions, it can have |
| 1:33.4 | some serious consequences. |
| 1:36.2 | Like if you shut down whenever you and your romantic partner have an argument, maybe your |
| 1:40.8 | standoffish or quiet instead of saying how you feel. |
| 1:44.7 | This can lead to resentment and a rift in the relationship. |
