So open your Bible's please to 1st Peter chapter 4 verse 6 and we were going to begin by tackling a hard and potentially controversial issue as usual as usual, it seems.

Not on purpose though, it's just that the Bible is full

of controversial issues.

And in doing this, we're going to learn

some really good Bible study habits because I'm going to take this

particular passage and then draw some application from it on how we approach difficult

passages or controversial issues in general. So hopefully it'll help you just in your own home Bible study time.

I know that using the methods I want to tell you tonight,

I, and they're very simple methods, I was able to deal with people coming to my door of different

religious persuasions, you know, knock knock knock knock, come join our group kind of thing. Having never heard

the arguments they would give before where they would take me to a verse

that I wasn't familiar with and then they quote it and then I'm like wait a minute and then I did

this this technique and was able to show where they were wrong even though I hadn't

studied the passage before.

And so there you go, there's my setting it up.

But I think that it's that effective and it's so simple.

So here we are, 1st Peter 4.6, for this reason the gospel was preached also to those who were dead.

That, as in this is the reason, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

There are three options that I see that are generally presented for how to interpret this
