That was Nigel Farage's threat, issued in the early hours of the morning in an election

that Kirstomer won with a majority of over 170.

By contrast, Reform UK, won only five seats. But was Farage's boast completely outlandish?

It's one of the biggest questions for British politics in 2025. Will this be Reform's

breakout year? I'm Raphael Bear, and you're listening to The Bunker. Reform says it has more members

than the Tories. They're in second place to labour in dozens

of seats and nudging at parity with the two main English parties in opinion polls. Farage thinks

he's on a role going into local elections in spring. What can people on the liberal and

progressive side of politics do to upset his bandwagon? Here to help me answer that question is an old friend

of the podcast, veteran journalist, author and seasoned political campaigner Paul Mason. Paul, welcome to

the bunker. It's great to be here. Let's start with the basics. First question, why are people

voting for reform and what might make them change their minds?

Well, I think if we look at the last poll that matters is the July 2024 general election.

So they got 15% or thereabouts. And we know that they took a lot of votes from the Tories.

So we also know that in 2019, a lot of working class people who were lifelong Labour voters

voted Tory.

And we also know that the electoral strategy of Labour was to get them back.
