Summary

It’s become an annual tradition for Dan and Becky Allender to reflect on their year on the podcast, and today, we get to hear their personal reflections on 2023.

They discuss the loss of dear friends this year, the fragility of life, the heartache of crises happening around the world, and the impact of disappointment on some of their personal plans and dreams.

In the midst of grief, they also express gratitude for the goodness they have experienced this year.

As we listen, themes of simplicity, aging, and the awareness of life's brevity emerge. The Allenders discuss the need for kindness and grace in facing disappointment and the importance of not succumbing to fear, leaving us with hope as we look forward to the new year.

Thank you for joining us. Let's get this conversation started. Well, welcome to the end of the year. And one of the things that we have done a number of years is to reflect on some of the themes

1:08.2

day-to-week schedule. And I have a calendar in my phone, and I have a calendar, a written, and those became the bases for what we're going to do today.

Now, I'll also say that Rachel and Michael were going to be with us in this,

Thanks, Dan. It's good to be here. And we'll come back to the year for you, but let me just say to the audience, the reason that

Michael and Rachel are not joining is because of the presence of their complex year,

1:56.0

including the glory of their little one, Evie, and the fact that between busyness schedule and

2:05.5

Evie just not really wanting to be quiet while we did this, we're now just the two that

2:16.6

will be reflecting on the year.

2:18.9

But I'll also say you're somewhat compromised.

2:23.0

You had surgery a few weeks ago and had to be intubated in the process and your right vocal cord.
