Summary

This Sunday, Pastor Ashley continued our Rediscovering Church series with a teaching on Christian persecution and the appropriate response of the Western Church. While it may appear that persecution is a burden of the past that only the early Church faced, the reality is that one in seven Christians today are facing persecution because of their faith. In light of this realtiy, perhaps the most significant thing we can do with our lives is to live beautiful and compelling lives of faith that echo back to those suffering for their faith that Jesus is indeed worthy.

1:00.9	Therefore, brothers and sisters, in all our distress and persecution,
1:05.6	we were encouraged about you because of your faith.
1:09.6	For now we really live, since you are standing firm in the Lord.
1:14.7	How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God
1:20.5	because of you? Night and day, we pray most earnestly that we may see you again and supply what is lacking
1:27.4	in your faith.
1:29.3	Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus clear the way for us to come to you.
1:35.6	May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else,
1:41.7	just as ours does for you. May he strengthen your heart so that you will be
1:46.0	blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all the
1:51.9	holy ones. This is the word of the Lord. Did you know that more Christians died for their faith in the 20th century than in any of the previous 19th centuries combined?
2:07.6	According to the 2023 World Watch List released by Open Doors, there are 312 million Christians today that face extreme or very high levels of persecution.
2:21.4	That's one in seven Christians in the world.
2:25.2	And in Africa, that's one in five Christians.
