All right, welcome into breaking balls.

As usual, first of all, the Red Sox lost a horrific game last night in Colorado.

I'm laughing because it's amazing at how many ways this team finds to lose games.

You can catch much of that on Felger, Mass.

So I'm not going to do a lot of it here.

Bottom line is the Red Sox were up, two to nothing going into the ninth, but between the bottom of the eighth and bottom of the ninth, they gave up eight straight hits. The pitchers did not really record it out. Oh, I take that back. There was one out in the eighth inning. I think that

they recorded. But they threw out two base runners on the bases in the bottom of the eighth and then

gave up four straight hits that ended with a game winning triple. They lost the game to the Colorado

Rockies three to two, eight straight hits to end the game. I just had to get that off my chest.

Now, let me tell you what I really want to

talk about because there's been a lot of discussion lately all year about the Red Sox

unwillingness to spend money, how they build the roster, et cetera, et cetera. And now injuries

are factoring into the discussion. And I want to try to explain how the Red Sox got here. Okay. So what the Red Sox

really don't like is dead money. So the spending has gone down. There's no question about it.

When they won their world championships, they were in the top three, top five. But I think it was

top three in spending every year that they won

a world championship. They are now closer to the middle of the pack in money spent. And so that's

obviously a difference. To say that they're cheap to me is not necessarily accurate because they're

still in the middle of the pack. They're not dead last.

But the bottom line is, as I knock over my water bottle, the bottom line is they don't spend

the way they used to.

That is fair.
