Nothing old, nothing with history, but what if history doesn't matter when something else already lives there?

In this story, we hear from someone who never asked to believe in the paranormal, but who could

never ignore it either. For most of their life, the signs were subtle, misplaced items, strange

sensations, that creeping sense of being watched,

but it wasn't until they left the safety of their parents' home, moved in with the one

person they trusted most and found themselves isolated in a space meant for peace.

That it all began to escalate, Was it their heightened sensitivity to the unknown,

or was something already waiting for them in that flat, patient, quiet,

and feeding off the emotional cracks forming in their relationship?

What followed were unexplainable sounds in the night,

things down like this, but after everything that happened, I don't know. Maybe it'll help me

make sense of it, or maybe it'll help someone else who ends up in a place like this.

The flat isn't old. That's the part I can't shake. It's not like one of those crumbling heritage homes with a dark attic or a creepy past.

It used to be a garage, a square, solid little space in a quiet part of Cape Town with white

walls and no upstairs neighbors, no history that I know of. We moved in about eight months ago,

my fiance and I. We were just starting our life together, renting our own place. It felt freeing.

A little worn down shore, but it was ours.
