This is Bill Camp, the voice of forensic files, too, on HLN, and you're listening to murder

in the rain.

Perhaps it's the distance of a shooting that keeps our interest at a distance.

We tell ourselves we will never be in that situation.

We aren't thugs or gangsters.

But it's victim blaming like that, which allows these murders to continue without the

same concern and outrage we have towards a serial killer that's stalking and killing someone.

Today, I'll be talking about the record amount of shootings in the Portland area, share stories

of some of the unsolved shooting deaths, and try to understand what is causing the record

violence.

Before we get into today's story, I have one ask of you, our dear listeners.

Please just hear us out.

I'm going to be discussing the record amount of shootings and homicides in Portland this

year and sharing stories of unsolved cases and statistics.

And we'll be talking with Penny Okomoto of Ceasefire Oregon to learn about what we the

everyday person can do to help.

This is not to get political.

This is not to take sides.

This is not to say we want to come for your guns.

I'm simply looking at the numbers, seeing a problem, and wanting to better understand.

So please hear us out before deciding we are stinky hippies that hate America.
