Hi, this is Christina Cauderucci from Slate. The What Next Team is taking a break this week, so they asked me to pick some of my favorite episodes to replay for you. For today, I present to you Mary Harris's conversation with Jamel Bowie on Joe Biden's political record. The episode first aired in mid-March, and I love the way Jamel reframes Biden's politics. They kind of

0:23.0

got buried by his association with Barack Obama, but there were three considering now that Biden's

0:27.8

running for president again. On to the show. Okay, so this weekend, this poll came out, and it showed Joe Biden in Iowa with 27% of the vote, which is the lead.

0:45.4

Bernie's like right behind him at 25%.

0:47.6

I have a tendency to basically roll my eyes at these kinds of polls.

0:57.1

Former Slatester, current New York Times opinion columnist, Jamel Bowie.

1:01.5

He rolls his eyes at a lot of political coverage.

1:38.9

There's this feeling of he's kind of unavoidable.

1:42.7

I think that's true just because he's sort of, he was the

1:46.2

former vice president of the previous president who is, who remains a very popular Democrat.

1:52.5

So it's, it's only natural that there's conversation about Biden. And honestly, if you were 10

1:57.6

years younger, it would be, there'd be like no question at all.

2:03.8

Joe Biden is 76 years old.

2:07.9

But that's just one reason Jamel is uneasy about his candidacy.

2:16.6

The interesting thing about Biden, he kind of came to national prominence for the second time as Obama's vice president. And that's kind of the lens I think through which many

2:19.4

voters, especially younger voters, are viewing him. But he had this long career, this 30-year career
