2023 and I'm the host of the show Kara Santa Maria and as I've been

mentioning I have been traveling quite a bit and I'm

pre-recording some of these intros for these episodes so that you all have access to

brand new content while I am away and we've got another great one for you this week.

I had the opportunity to chat with Dr. Michel Lamont.

She is a professor of sociology and African and African American studies. She's also

the Robert I Goldman professor of European studies at Harvard University. So her sort of position is as a cultural and comparative

sociologist and she's written, I think,

a dozen books as author or co-author and edited a ton of volume.

She's written over a hundred articles and she really covers a lot of topics like

culture, inequality, racism, stigma, social change, societies, and even qualitative methods.

And she has a brand new book out and I think the topic is just so incredibly important and it was a fascinating chat to be able to dive deep into this.

So her book is called Seeing Others, how recognition works and how it can heal a divided world.

So your book is one that I think is, gosh, very timely, very important,

and also I don't know if I would call it a departure from what we often do on the show.

I think it's only a departure in so much as it is formalized and codified.
