Effect on Emotions Mindfulness has made a night-and-day difference in how I deal with my emotions. Understanding that if I can sit with my emotions, understand them, accept them, and process them, although painful today, prevents my triggers from the future. You can get to a really, really happy place when you've taken the time to process those. Thoughts on Breathing Every course that we do starts with breathing. When you find gratitude for having your breath, I think the world changes for every human. I use breathing techniques with my boxing team every day. Suggested Resources Book: Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson App: www.Udemy.com App: www.choosemuse.com Bullying Story I've been on both sides of that bully fence. I had a really challenging time in my youth. My first moment of mindfulness was probably when I was 7 or 8 years old. I didn't have the mindfulness I needed at the moment, and I became a very violent young person. Someone was calling me a name, and I got very angry. This was my first time in court-ordered therapy. I attacked somebody for calling me a name. At that moment I was living a life of looking up to my peers. I look at that moment in my life very frequently about how I reacted and what I did. It was the first time I went to therapy. Mindfulness mode, episode 1012. Living a happy life is something that I didn't think I would ever have.

Hey, Mindful Tribe. Welcome back to the show. Today, we are talking with a dynamic man who is an accomplished,

0:17.9

well, he's accomplished when it comes to IT. He's done all sorts of things in that

0:23.7

area. He's an accomplished writer. And I say that because he has a new book that is called

0:29.9

Reclaim Sobriety. And we're going to be talking about that. Today I'm here with Ken Cox. Hey, Ken,

0:36.3

are you in mindfulness mode today? Not as much as I would like to be, but I'm here with Ken Cox. Hey Ken, are you in mindfulness mode today?

0:38.6

Not as much as I would like to be, but I'm definitely moving that direction for the day.

0:44.4

Yeah. So Ken, what does mindfulness mean to you?

0:49.7

It means a lot, right? And I can unpack that for, for hours on end, probably.

0:57.1

But to summarize it, it means intent, having an intent for my life, understanding that

1:04.7

that this is my life, it was gifted to me. It's a rarity. I know that we have eight billion

1:12.7

people on our planet, but when you look at the whole universe, you know, we're wildly lucky to even

1:19.3

have this opportunity to live these lives. And for me, it was understanding that life is not a

1:27.4

punishment, that it's a gift.

1:29.3

And living life that way with an intention on what do I want out of life and how am I going to go get it,

1:35.3

instead of just kind of marandering through life.

1:39.3

Yeah, interesting.

1:41.3

So you've got a podcast called Clicks and Bricks, and that's on YouTube.

1:45.7

I've seen that and listened to some of your episodes. But tell me, how did you come to the point of

1:51.8

writing a book called Reclaim Sobriety? Okay. So I've been working on this particular book for a very long time.

2:04.2

I guess now about 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with liver disease.

2:08.5

Okay.
