(Matthew 18:21-34) It is unthinkable that God would forgive us for a lifetime of sin, yet we are unwilling to forgive someone else for one thing they did to us. We should forgive others because God has forgiven us.  (08137240607) Download our Study Guide for the Parables of Jesus: https://enjoyingthejourney.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/2404-15-Parables-of-Jesus-FLYER-web.pdf Join Scott Pauley's study through Scripture this year. Everyone loves a good story and a good storyteller.

0:11.0

But there is no storyteller like the Lord Jesus,

0:14.0

and there are no greater stories told than the ones Jesus shared.

0:18.0

In this study, spiritual stories, we consider the parables Jesus told and their

0:23.9

application to us. These are truly the greatest stories ever told, and the Lord has something

0:30.3

I want to talk to you today about receiving and giving.

0:47.6

1:02.1

God is the first giver.

1:03.5

So we receive and then we give and share what we have received from our God.

1:09.1

And the greatest giving you ever do is forgiving, because the greatest thing you

1:14.5

ever receive is forgiveness.

1:16.9

We come today to Jesus' parable recorded for us in Matthew chapter 18, beginning in

1:21.8

verse number 21, down to verse number 34, it's commonly referred to as the unmerciful servant.

1:33.1

It's basically about a man who received forgiveness and refused to give forgiveness to somebody else.

1:37.3

Before I read it to you and we study it together, I want to point something out.

1:43.0

Remember, we're trying to approach these parables as much as we can chronologically in the life and ministry of Jesus.

1:45.0

We know that this parable followed the parable of the lost. Remember, we've been studying in Luke 15, the lost sheep,

1:50.7

the lost coin, and the two lost boys. Well, the parallel to that in Matthew chapter 18,

1:56.1

verses 12 to 14, is Jesus talking about the shepherd, leaving the 99 and going after the one lost sheep.
