| 0:47.6 | Now that's backwards from the way we use to say it. We usually say giving and receiving, but I'm choosing the order carefully because |
| 0:52.0 | every good thing that we have to give, we only have that to give because first we have received. |
| 0:59.5 | You see, we are not the first giver. |
| 1:02.1 | God is the first giver. |
| 1:03.5 | So we receive and then we give and share what we have received from our God. |
| 1:09.1 | And the greatest giving you ever do is forgiving, because the greatest thing you |
| 1:14.5 | ever receive is forgiveness. |
| 1:16.9 | We come today to Jesus' parable recorded for us in Matthew chapter 18, beginning in |
| 1:21.8 | verse number 21, down to verse number 34, it's commonly referred to as the unmerciful servant. |
| 1:33.1 | It's basically about a man who received forgiveness and refused to give forgiveness to somebody else. |
| 1:37.3 | Before I read it to you and we study it together, I want to point something out. |
| 1:43.0 | Remember, we're trying to approach these parables as much as we can chronologically in the life and ministry of Jesus. |
| 1:45.0 | We know that this parable followed the parable of the lost. Remember, we've been studying in Luke 15, the lost sheep, |
| 1:50.7 | the lost coin, and the two lost boys. Well, the parallel to that in Matthew chapter 18, |
| 1:56.1 | verses 12 to 14, is Jesus talking about the shepherd, leaving the 99 and going after the one lost sheep. |
