Welcome to the Boneyard with Steve Roberts and as always, I am your good friend and host Steve Robertson here on the hump day edition of the yard coming to you in the wee hours of the morning. I'm a bit of an idle as you guys know. And since I don't have to get up and bring the kid to school every day, I'm kind of taking advantage of this time to kind of get some things done. Doing most of my riding at night after everybody's kind of gone to bed. It's me and the animals up this late and so they don't really get in the way they don't have a TV on they're not

0:26.3

running the refrigerator and kind of opening things and causing distractions for me and so

0:30.2

it's a little easier and probably beneficial to you guys too because those of you that are looking

0:35.2

for some mississippi state sports talk in the mornings you can kind of go ahead and get started on that. And I know many of you listen to the show at work while you're working. And so I'm doing my best to get this to you earlier than normal. And so happy to do it. Hope things are well with you today, wherever you are today. There are a lot of things that are kind of going on behind the scenes right now

0:55.1

that maybe there's not a lot of public news about.

0:58.2

And I want to share a couple of things with you today.

1:01.1

Your coaches, your football coaches are working behind the scenes,

1:05.1

doing their due diligence to ensure that they have found some very important prospects

1:09.7

for this class.

1:10.7

It is a very, very, very deep year

1:13.0

in the state of Mississippi in 2022. That wasn't the case in 2021. That's one of the things, too,

1:18.9

you've got to be careful about with your evaluations, because if you offer an in-state kid,

1:22.6

you better be ready to take him. There are times when you drop an out-of-state kid, perhaps

1:26.9

a guy that didn't progress as well as you want, but you really hurt some relationships when you do that with in-state players, and so you've got to be 100% sure you're ready to take them. So some new offers have gone out here in the last couple of weeks. There will be more offers in-state in the weeks to come, but there are a lot of guys, and you've heard me say it on the show before, there are a lot of guys that you guys are really going to want to be on your football team that you don't know a lot about yet. We're going to do our best to identify them and share what we've learned about them here on this show and, of course, over on Jeanspage. If you're not a member of jeans page.com, that's g-en-es-p-a-g-E-D-E-E-D-C-A-G-E-D- our best to offer things to you before they are public on jeans page. That's kind of what, that's the gig for us, right? We can't just report the same things that are in a print newspaper. We've got to out to you a little bit quicker and I think we do a better job without anybody in the industry

2:22.3

we cover recruiting 365 days a year did a now that it's over chat on Monday night that's one of

2:30.3

those things I do annually once the recruiting class is pretty much complete,

2:34.7

is go back and kind of tell some behind-the-scenes stuff that maybe we didn't share or couldn't

2:38.5

share during the recruiting process. One guy in particular, Dwayne Lofton, was a wide receiver

2:43.9

out of Texas at one point, was ready to commit to Mississippi State, but Mississippi State wasn't

2:48.3

quite ready to take him. And so ultimately he commits to Virginia Tech.

2:53.2

One of the concerns that we had during his recruitment is, you know,

2:56.7

he is a Dallas-Fort Worth guy, so what happens if TCU comes in and offers late?
