I'm Gigi. It's Tuesday, April 28th, and time to knock out the afternoon recap of the testimony in the Tanner Horner penalty phase. We ended the day with a doctor.

She's a professor of psychiatry and behavioral health at Ohio State University. She's also a doctor of

osteopathic medicine. She had to get a temporary medical license in Texas for doing a comprehensive

forensic psychiatric evaluation for mitigation reasons on Tanner.

She met with him in four different sessions for a total of about 18 and a half hours.

She also met with family and friends to shed light on Tanner.

She starts off saying there are significant mental health issues in his family on both

sides. There was a history of successful self-harm with two of his maternal grandmother's siblings,

and all of her other siblings have mental illness, as does his grandmother. Tanner has been

diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, severe and recurrent major depressive disorder,

severe ADHD and bipolar disorder. A few years ago, Tanner was admitted to a hospital that

specializes in behavioral health and addiction treatment after his girlfriend called police.

Tanner told her she could look at Facebook because he was going to self-harm.

She went to his little shack, found him unconscious,

and called 911.

He was involuntarily admitted

after he refused to go willingly,

and he was hospitalized for about a week.
