It's Wednesday, May 13th. Corey Richens sentenced to life without parole today. Very powerful victim impact statements from the family of Eric Richens and Corey got up to the podium and spoke for a very long time speaking directly to her sons and nobody else.

Before we jump into some of the main parts, the restitution hearing has been set for July 31st at 1.30 p.m.

The judge does not have authority for a continuous protective order for the family

and the kids. The defense says something like that is beyond the court's ability and says that

Corey couldn't send her kids cards. Her parental rights have not been terminated and this court

cannot do that. I would assume now that she's been sentenced to life without

parole, that's something that the family will get on, which is having her parental rights

terminated. And then she would be out of the picture as their mother completely. And that's not a bad

thing because one of the most heartbreaking things we heard today was the statement read by the kids

counselors on their behalf, where overall,

it sounds like the boys are afraid if she ever were to get out that she may come to hurt them,

and that is heartbreaking. When we started with opening statements from the state, they said

that Corey tried and failed to murder Eric on Valentine's Day 2022.

And for 17 days, she didn't think, what have I done?

She thought, how can I do it better?

She poisoned him with their kids in the home for money.

Her kids should never worry that they will one day encounter her.

So they asked for life without parole, of course.

And they asked for restitution of, of course, and they asked for

restitution of $1,017,018, and then also restitution of $352,000 to the insurance company.
