Summary

In this episode of The Brain Food Show, we kick off a series on space related facts. Before we get started in that, however, we do some follow up answering the question of whether the Allies in WWII used prisoners of war as slave labor.  We then jump into the topic of the real life job of Space DJ, then the saga of the Pillownaughts. Hello, welcome to a brand new episode of the Brain Food podcast. In this one, we're starting another series, right? It's a series seem to have done well so far. We did the Roosevelt one, which every one, every time I say Roosevelt, I've got to think about the pronunciation. So Rose Avel, like he's a rose, is always how I imagine him. We did the Roosevelt one, and we did a couple of other series,

0:20.9

and people seem to like those. So today, this one's a little less specific than Roosevelt,

0:24.7

but it's just space, right? Like, we're kicking things off today with, what are we talking about?

0:30.6

Space DJs and Pillownauts, which when I read the, when I read the title for that episode,

0:36.7

I was like, what is the pillow knot? What is this about some sort of space pillow oh no it's a lot more exciting and a lot more gross yeah well and we've got some other stuff coming on what's what's going to be what's going to be trailing in the next few episodes you got loads of stuff yeah we got loads of stuff we're going to talk about how astronauts go to bathroom in space to what you cry, or next episode. Yeah, and we're going to talk in the series. We've got a ton of just all space related, kind of the reality of being in space and the stuff that a lot of people don't actually talk about very often. I'm just sort of that, the day-to-day activities that are kind of quite fascinating how they do things and all the planning and everything that goes into all of it.

1:12.2

Sort of very, today I found out, it's a very brain food, isn't it? Like, let's look at the things that you think you don't know about space travel. I think that's one of the things that I always like about this. It's like, your response to emails where someone's like, hey, could you talk about this? And it's like, no, because it's been done to death.

1:26.0

It's always, you know, we could talk about, you know, Apollo 13,

1:28.9

or we could talk about the moon landing or stuff like this.

1:31.5

But it's like, no, because it's been done to death. It's always, you know, we could talk about, you know, Apollo 13 or we could talk about

1:29.6

the moon landing or stuff like this. But it's kind of, that's been covered. What about if we talk about the pillow knots? Like an incident? The space DJs. Or like an incident with Apollo 10 that it's going to come up in next week. That's hilarious. and I don't know, I won't spoil it,

1:44.1

but something no one ever talks about,

1:46.5

and it's great.

1:47.6

Are you getting you, come up in next week. It's hilarious and I don't know. I won't spoil it, but something no one

1:45.3

never talks about and it's great. You're led up to that, you, you tease that one very nicely.

1:51.5

So with that in mind, don't forget to subscribe to this podcast on iTunes or wherever you listen

1:56.4

to your podcasts because, yeah, lots of space door coming up in the next few weeks.

2:00.1

Should we do a little

2:01.2

housework before we get into the kind of, we've got some great follow-up, right? About the, I think last week, we promised that we'd follow up on something from the previous week, but we didn't. But you've got done yourself in this read. Like, I made a couple of notes about this, And I was like, we should talk about the slavery and the POW camps.

2:18.3

And then you're like, okay should talk about the slavery in the POW

2:17.6

camps. And then you're like, okay, here are a solid page worth of notes on everything. I guess you went down a bit of a rabbit hole. It's fast. Well, it was hard because also there's a lot of like biases on both sides of what people say happened and what actually happened. You know, it's kind of a, I don't know, So it took a lot of digging, basically, to kind of uncover kind of the truth of everything.

2:38.0

So, yeah. happened, you know, it's kind of, I don't know, so it took a lot of digging, basically, to kind

2:34.4

uncover kind of the truth of everything. So, yeah, the forced, was there forced labor in the
