It is a bad day for our friends up north and documented American haters just like Mike Somich over there,

who is on record as we can play it back, as hating America and thinking that this was impossible,

it was never going to happen. And instead, the United States of America did win gold in the Winter Olympics here in 2006.

They got one in the first.

Canada got one in the second.

It was a scoreless third period.

And Jack Hughes got the overtime goal to give U.S. the gold.

But Mike Somich, I'm sure you were going to come on here and say, the real star of the game was Connor Hellebuck saved 41 of 42 attempts against him,

including the circus one there at the end of the third period to get the U.S.

into overtime and give them a chance to win this thing.

Yeah, Connor Hellebuck stolen, stolen for the USA USA here. It's like the, I can't remember a

save at that level of importance that was that crazy, being able to reach back with his paddle,

basically an empty net for team Canada and able to get his paddle in the way, knock the puck aside.

And he was phenomenal all game. I mean, you mentioned it. He had 41 saves in this game or 42 saves in this game. He was all over the ice for Team USA. MacAvoy deserves some credit. There was one other one that snuck by him. And McAvoy standing in the net, knocks it out with his hands to be able to keep this game going. And look, it kind of played out like we discussed in the five on five. Canada was the better team from top to bottom. They outplayed the U.S. They controlled this game in the second and third period, able to tie it. And it felt like it was a matter of time on five on five. But in overtime, you switch to three on three. And all of a sudden, it is much more of a coin flip because of how much open

ice is out there. Who's going to get the better chances? USA gets a massive chance. Jordan

Bittington makes a crazy save with his glove, but cannot stop Jack Hughes, who's able to get

that game winner, that golden goal for the USA. It's so hard to put this into perspective as a USA hockey fan. 37 men in the entire

history of the U.S. had won a gold medal in hockey prior to this. We have never won a gold medal

off U.S. soil, both of those wins coming in Lake Placid and then one coming up in California
