Hi, this is Josh Marshall, and this is the TPM show with Josh and Kate. So we've got a lot of news today. We just had another round of primary elections last night. We were going to be talking about those election results. Also, the story that always keeps giving, the Grand Platner campaign in Maine. We will talk about

0:39.3

the latest, I don't know what you want to call it, the latest blow-up scandal, maybe scandal.

0:47.3

I don't know what counts as a scandal with Graham Platner. And then finally, we'll look at

0:52.3

the latest Calais aftermath aftermath where the Supreme Court took

0:58.1

it upon itself to find, like, I don't know, a workaround kind of a cobble together to allow

1:04.1

Alabama to use its new racially gerrymandered map.

1:09.2

So we are going to get into all of that today. So Kate,

1:13.9

let's dig into what happened last night in primaries and a few big states around the country.

1:18.9

1:23.4

which insists on not being able to count its votes for days, if not weeks after the election.

1:28.7

So, you know, we'll start with a state that's a little more kind of competent in its election

1:32.6

administration. And the big stuff happening in Iowa this year is there's an open Senate seat

1:38.7

and the governor's mansion is open together for the first time in a long time. And that coupled with strong Democratic

1:45.6

recruiting and the kind of overall dismal Trump-inflicted atmosphere plus kind of specific harms

1:53.7

to Iowa as a very, you know, agricultural state. So the tariffs and the fertilizer and all that

2:00.0

kind of stuff is kind of particularly

2:02.3

damaging there. All of this has kind of combined to make Iowa like a reach state, right?

2:09.3

No one is saying Democrats' path to Senate majority runs through Iowa, but it wasn't that long ago

2:16.6

that Democrats were competitive in Iowa. You know, granted,

2:19.8

it's pre-white working class realignment, but, you know, it was Obama. It was in basic

2:26.7

ways considered a blue state, certainly until 2016. That was probably, I mean, I think, you know, obviously what counts as blue state is an evolving

2:37.1

thing and not just evolving in terms of the political complexion of different states,
