Summary

Welcome to covid’s Groundhog Day. Every day’s the same and we constantly have six weeks to go before it’s over. But school’s open, traffic is back, and it’s time to start thinking about what the world looks like on the other side. Here to talk to Phill about reentering a very changed and very similar world are writers Michael Arcenaux and Aminatou Sow. They chat about the challenges of creating through disaster, seeing old injustices through new eyes, creating boundaries, and finding god in memes.

1:07.8

So it's kind of like we're in this limbo between are we actually re-emerging or are we potentially going to have a couple of more weeks of

1:18.4

semi pseudo freedom before we all have to go back inside and it's a kind of tricky thing to balance,

1:24.0

but not one that should necessarily be unexpected,

1:27.0

right?

1:28.0

This is a pandemic, it is a virus,

1:30.0

and this is kind of how these things go.

1:32.0

That doesn't mean, however, that today's episode

1:35.0

and today's guests don't have a lot to offer for us

1:38.0

as we consider what re-emergence looks like

1:41.0

and what we kind of want to bring forward with us and also what we want to leave behind.

1:47.8

Now I don't have to tell anyone who's listening that this past year to year and a half has been painful, excruciating, full of grief,

1:58.2

full of sorrow, and full of loss for so many people.
