This is Ray, the source of all black knowledge.

I know we've been away from the podcast for a while,

but this is another rumination I had. back home in Richmond talking with my big sister, Janice.

And I had some thoughts about a few things.

And one of those things that I had been thinking about was health care in the sense of what happens when you're older if you're disabled what

happened historically in the black community how people were treated and you

had all the problems you can think about this difficult right now changing your

clothes your personal health care all those things like that. They're real issues today.

So they had to be difficult things to take care of in the past.

I mean, what were you going to do with your elderly grandmother, your disabled child,

your parents, you know, they can't take care of themselves. And the pressure

put on people, if you're a blue collar people, you got to go to work, you got a job,

you don't have the money to put them in a home, the state's not going to pay for it, they may

not have had any money or insurance or anything like that. You were put in a position, what are you going to pay for it they may not have had any money or insurance or anything like that

you were putting a position what are you going to do with them and I can remember growing up

seeing or not actually seeing but hearing about that person living in the back room so

Janice you've seen that before yourself?

Oh, plenty of times.

Go over to friends' houses.

There was someone always in a back room.
