Mickey, the Croscible and The Witches in the same week.

What's happening?

I should be setting fires and building gallows.

Yeah, this week we watched 1990s The Witches,

a kids film with real horror credentials and not just for any mice watching.

Oh, poor little mousers.

It was directed by Nicholas Roig. That's right. Nicholas Roig, who directed

1973's Saucy at a supernatural thriller, Don't Look Now, and was cinematographer on 1964's The Mask of the Red Death?

It's a classic horror, a little bit of Vincent Price action.

Based on Royal Dahl's 1983 novel, Roag's adaptation was actually billed as a, quote,

dark fantasy comedy horror, and we can further investigate some of those words a little bit later.

The Witches was the last film Jim Henson worked on before his death,

with Jim Henson Productions Co-producing the film and Jim Henson's Creature Shop,

designing and building the prosthetics for the witches and the animatronic rats and mice

that were used interchangeably with real mice
