moment where we're going through the Chauvin trial and he's going to talk about race and policing but before we get to Dr. Ray I wanted to take a moment to recognize the tragic death of yet another capital police officer this week.

In case you missed it, one Friday, capital police officer William Evans died as a result of injury

sustained after an assailant rammed his car into barrier securing the capital's perimeter, killing

officer Evans and injuring another officer. This comes on the heels of the

January 6th insurrection where another capital Hill police officer died and 73

police officers were injured. Now for those of you who don't spend much time in

Washington losing two officers from the Capitol Police Force is rare,

because until January 6th insurrection,

the traffic on Capitol Hill was pretty much tourist,

members of Congress, staff, and lobbyists.

So as far as law enforcement goes, this used to be one of the safest place for an officer to work.

That's unfortunately no longer the case, because the U.S. capital is now ground zero for extremist and insurrectionists, and that's a loss for us all.

No more families and tourists and school children touring the Capitol.

Members of Congress and their staff now live in fear for their lives because of extremists of all stripes now view the capital as a target for their terrorism.

While I won't equate this random attack with January 6th. I remain deeply concerned that the

capital and the officers that protected are now targets for terrorism that we

would have never foreseen just a few months ago. I know that Congress is looking into how they can better

secure the Capitol and better protect members of Congress, staff, and officers and

1:58.0

they should do what's necessary, but unfortunately I fear that the tradeoff
