Summary

The One, The Only, Randy Spelling steps Behind The Rope. Yes THAT Randy Spelling. Before we get to his current “Randy Spelling Coaching” Business, let us start at the beginning. Spelling Manor. Randy is kind enough to entertain all of our questions about what it was like to grow up at Spelling Manor. Spelling Manor, the house with its own Wikipedia page. We discuss Mom Candy Spelling’s glamorous parties, the infamous gift wrapping room, the whose who of Hollywood who flowed through there, and how Randy felt when the Manor was sold in 2011. We discuss what it was like to grow up with Aaron Spelling as a Dad and what the legacy of such shows like “ Melrose Place”, “Charmed”, “Charlie’s Angels”, “Dynasty”, “The Love Boat” and “Heart to Heart” means to him. We also discuss what is was like to be a high school student at the same time that 90210 exploded. Well there was that one time Randy went to school to everyone chanting “Donna Martin Graduates”, the night after a certain episode aired. Speaking of 90210, we discuss it all and by all, we mean, Shannen, Jason, Brian, Ian, Gabrielle, Jenni and Tori. Speaking of Tori, we discuss her own career both on 90210 as well as the plethora of reality TV she has done, such as Tori & Dean and True Tori and what it is like for Randy to watch some of these shows. Randy also opens up about what it was like to be caught in the middle of certain family dramas and it what it was like to have those played out in the media. On a larger note, we discuss topics such as the importance and value society improperly places on having versus not having money, the addiction of fame, why the media is so obsessed with “The Spellings” and some of the biggest misconceptions about himself, Tori and the rest of the family. Fear not, all of this has helped Randy get to where he is today, a devoted Husband and Dad living in Oregon with a successful life coaching business. No really, you can book him as a life coach, and if this sit down is any indication, sign us up!!! @randyspelling @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Hey guys, this is David.

0:28.3

Welcome back behind the Velvet Rope. Let's just get right into it today because we are

0:32.7

joined. I'm so excited to chat with him. The one and only Mr. Randy Selle. Hi there.

0:40.4

How are you? I'm doing well today. How about you? Pretty good. What are you up to? You're

0:46.0

an Oregon, right? Yeah, I'm in Portland, Oregon. And let's see. How's it been going? I don't

0:53.5

know about you, but every month feels elongated. Honestly, I've been making the most of it

1:01.9

as much as I can. I work with a bunch of clients in my life coaching practice. So then I'm working

1:09.6

on tips and tools to keep everyone else sane while doing that for myself.

1:14.8

Which I'm going to talk to you about because I want to get into your practice and how that

1:18.4

I think ties into quarantine and just in general. But here's what I like to do. I feel like we can't

1:23.6

get to the present until we go to the past. So I just like with everyone just to like start at

1:28.6

the beginning and you know, like who is Randy Selle. Yeah, let's do it. So okay, so before we get to

1:34.5

all of this, so you were born in LA. Born in Los Angeles. And then, you know, I think there is a

1:41.9

misconception that you were born in the manner, but you actually lived in another house first.

1:46.5

Very true. Yes. We lived across the boulevard on sunset. One was north, one was south. So I lived

1:56.8

for the first 11 to 12 years of my life in another house before the the manner. Like do you have any

2:04.6

recollection? I mean, you were young. Oh, yeah. How's it? Are you do? Yeah, of course. Yeah, I mean,

2:09.6

that that was my growing up house, the real formative years, my earliest memories. And then the manner,

2:18.1

I remember when we were I would go over my parents would take me over. And I would, you know,

2:25.3

we would do walkthroughs of the house. And as a kid, it is so hard to envision rooms when the house

2:33.5

is open. And there's just framing up. And so my mom's trying to describe to me, oh, this is

2:40.0

this room. And this is this room. And after five minutes straight over my head. And I want to go play.
