What can a breakpoint in a daily look at an ever-changing culture through the lens of

Talking with kids about controversial topics has always been a challenge for parents but today the

stakes are really really high with an increasing number of kids who are secretly

transitioned by public school staff or who have adopted LGBTQ identities thanks to online influences

parents have to know how to navigate cultural waters the waters that have

consumed so many families. Now some choose just to keep their children away

from false and dangerous ideologies as best as they can,

for example by choosing alternatives

to public education, like homeschooling

or private Christian school.

However, making that choice does not guarantee that a child will be protective from secular

indoctrination.

For example, a 2022 study found that of 57,000 undergrads from 159 of the nation's most

elite post-secondary institutions, homeschooled, and private school kids are and I quote as or more likely to identify as

LGBTQ or non-binary as those from public or private school backgrounds, in quote.

In other words, it's apparently not enough to simply insulate children from bad ideas,

especially when insulation is accompanied by silence on the issues that are being talked about all the time in the wider world.

Now of course many parents remain silent simply because they don't know how to think about everything.

And the issues seem to change all the time. and the fear of saying the wrong thing can be paralyzing.

And yet as a recent Gospel Coalition article noted, silence on these issues actually undermines Christian formation.
