In that third segment, we're going to be talking about who needs to prove it this season in terms of who's on the Raiders roster. A couple of guys that were on the team |
| 2:18.4 | last year. We're going to be talking about some trade pieces. Michael Mayer obviously has been in the |
| 2:23.2 | mix, you know, his name being mentioned floating around last season. But we got to start with some news |
| 2:29.0 | as well. The Raiders signed safety Tristan McCullum to his exclusive rights tender. |
| 2:40.4 | Now, obviously, this is more of, you know, a move that they made, I believe, for special teams, but I think it's going to start a little bit of a conversation in terms of, |
| 2:44.7 | you know, the secondary as well. |
| 2:46.7 | Link, just your thoughts on the Raiders just adding more depth. |
| 2:50.1 | Well, they need it we we talked about |
| 2:51.8 | in the off season we've been talking about extensively how they need to help secondary help and who |
| 2:56.0 | knows what the secondary is going to look like uh you know i do believe that this this tristan signing |
| 3:00.3 | is more of a special teams deal but you also need that too so uh it you know special teams was a big |
| 3:05.8 | was a big issue for the Raiders last year. |
| 3:08.3 | We know that they fired their head coach and everything else. I mean, I head coach is a special team's coordinator. So this is a big issue. And it just adds depth. Going into camp, you want as many bodies as possible. And you're really, you're really just trying to throw to see what sticks on the refrigerator door. I mean, that's the, to see what, what jails with, what guys jail with you and what jails with your ideology and what you want to do to the defensive velocity. This is a brand new defense. So we're seeing a lot of things for the first time. So the more you can add to me, the better. Right. And it's, it's a lot of special teams, as you guys both mentioned, you know, and what I could appreciate is that special teams has been a point of emphasis this offseason for this team. When you see that they're flying out and having private workouts with long snappers, when you see that they're flying out having private workouts with kickers, obviously Joe Day Camillis is a guy that's well respected around the national football league. Like there's a lot of guys that are being added to this team for special teams purposes. And we always talk about the three phases of the game, but we only talk about the offensive defense. The only time we talk about special teams is when there's breakdowns. And the Raiders, to Lincoln's point, had plenty of breakdowns on special teams last year. So they're clearly trying to put a point of emphasis on all three phases, and special teams is one of them. So Tristan coming back, yeah, he's depth at the safety position, but more importantly, in my opinion, he's a special team ace. Yeah, and you know, this is not surprising to me at all. You bring in, you know, you bring in someone that's going to add |
| 4:32.0 | depth to the secondary. And I feel like last year was a little bit of a mess. Now, there's still questions as well because, as you know, they didn't re-signed Daniel Carlson. They signed Matt Gay. And I feel like they may go out in the draft and maybe look at a kicker. Like, do you think that's possible for the Raiders to do in this year's draft anything's possible i wouldn't do it i mean honestly i really wouldn't do it i mean |
| 4:53.5 | you have so many other needs that you have to address and there's no offense to kickers but you know |
| 4:58.2 | i mean i was around on the raiders when they draft the seabas and look i get it i mean i understand |
| 5:03.6 | it but as far as priority goes i don't know, I don't know if that's one of them. I think, and the reason why I say that altogether is because I think if you refuse to sign Carlson, for whatever reason is, you have a plan in mind or you have something in mind because you know you need a kicker. Right. So it's not like you're going to be totally void. |
| 5:21.7 | But I mean, look, it's they did what they did. They handled it the way they did. I would not use a draft choice on a kicker. And they might not have to. They might be able to sign one as an undrafted free agent. What I do feel very confident about is that they're going to add a kicker. I don't know if they're going to have to add it by the way of the draft, |
| 5:37.8 | if they're going to sign a free agent. |
