Football coach Hugh Freeze made news recently when he suggested being able to play your

spring game against an actual opponent instead of the inner squad's scrimmage.

And if you really sit down and think about it, there's absolutely no downside at all.

Now, I'm not talking about playing against a conference opponent or a power five team

even, but maybe against a group of five team in your own state.

For example, Auburn would play, let's say Troy or Bama would play UAB.

And for those that say, well, if you lose, it's a huge stain on the program, aren't factoring

in that those odds are still relatively small.

And if you have a good year during the actual season, nobody is going to care.

For example, I watched Auburn's Final Four basketball team lose an exhibition game in

the preseason to Barry College.
