Hi, it's Andy here and welcome to Radio Headspace and to Thursday morning. So I don't know if

you're someone who thinks a lot about your impermanence, your mortality and over some

people it's something they think about a lot. For others not much at all. For some it's an

empowering thing for others it's a very scary thing. I think as you've seen in the right light it

can bring a real sense of ease and a greater sense of presence to our life. It can be actually a

really positive thing. A few years back I was really sort of struck, you know you have those

moments in life where your sense of mortality just for whatever reason becomes that much more

evident. And we just had our first child. He was probably about three or four months old at the

time. So quite young we were still very much in the weeds as they say and we had an electrical

fire in the house that we were renting. Thankfully no one was hurt but the house was quite badly

damaged and it was very clear that we would not be able to live in it for a while. So the land

lady very kindly offered to put us up somewhere else and she gave us a budget. You know we were

living here in LA and so I thought well if we can live anywhere then maybe we're going to live in

Hawaii for a few weeks while they're doing the house if she's going to pay for it. That's amazing.

And so we found a place in Hawaii and we found ourselves heading off to this island. It was an

interesting dynamic because you know it's a Hawaii. It's a tropical paradise at the same time. We
