Broadcasting behind enemy lines tonight's episode the new First Presidency announcement, or does the LDS Church now have

an illegitimate First Presidency?

On Tuesday, January 15th, a special broadcast was made to the world,

announcing the selection and setting apart of the new first presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Elder D. Todd Christophason serves as the MC of sorts in this public announcement

made specifically to the members of the Church.

The announcement itself runs approximately 18 minutes long and needs to be distinguished

from the press conference that is held shortly thereafter.

In this announcement, Elder Christofferson goes over the basic procedure of how the new church president is selected,

which is basically that it is the guy who has served the longest in the quorum of the 12.

That person is President Nelson.

I am going to play the entirety of this announcement and do a running commentary as we go through.

Let's begin now with Elder D. Todd Christofferson,

who will introduce himself as Elder D. Todd Christofferson.

I'm Elder D. Todd Christopherson of the quorum of the 12

Apostles and have been asked to

conduct this morning's event as chairman of the Church Public Affairs Committee.

Maybe it's just me, but it seemed a little bit odd that D. Todd Christofferson is asked to conduct this meeting simply because he is the chairman of the Church Public Affairs Committee.

I mean, I know somebody had to do it and Elder Christoffson is probably a pretty good candidate

since he speaks relatively well or in this case not speaking so much as reading from a teleprompter.
