The Evangelical Inquestion is Steve Pynaker, the host of the podcast, Mormon Book Reviews.

Now Steve Pynaker is an unusual sort of fellow, in that he has a great interest in Mormonism,

and in fact he has a knowledge of Mormonism that far exceeds that possess by most average

Mormons and even by many Mormon scholars.

But he has never been a Mormon.

He is an Evangelical Christian, and he has told the story of how it is that he went

to his first Mormon history association meeting, thinking that he would find people who

really knew Mormonism a lot better than he did, and was surprised to find that he could

hold his own, and not only could he hold his own, he seemed to know things that other

Mormon scholars did not know.

So I am going to play the audio of the interview that Steve Pynaker and I did earlier this month.

But before that, I want to tell a story about my dad, and it's a story that I had meant

to tell during this interview, but that I somehow managed to forget to mention.

And what the story has to do with is a possible explanation, as to how it is that Steve Pynaker

could so relatively rapidly become an expert in Mormonism outstripping even many Mormon

scholars.

I will tell you that it has taken me since 1978 to get where I am today, wherever I am

is, as far as being a Mormon scholar, but that is 44 years ago.
