And in fact, we spent the first like seven or eight minutes of the movie almost trying to

frustrate the viewer.

But it was this idea that we almost force you to like tune out a little bit, that there's stuff going on.

He don't know who or what to grab.

And that, you know, maybe, this is the theory, maybe that might help

you have a sense of apathy, actually, to the movie. And then into that world, we introduced

this gravitational force.

In this episode, a teacher in a Mexican border town tries to move his students towards success

in director Christopher Zala's drama, Radical.

The film tells the story of Sergio Juarez, a sixth grade teacher in a Mexican border town

full of neglect, corruption,

and violence.

Saddled with the worst performing students, he tries a radical new method to unlock his class's

curiosity, potential, and maybe even their genius.

In addition to radical, Zala's other directorial credits include the feature, Blood of My Blood,

the movie for television Beautiful and Twisted, and episodes of the series Law and Order.

Following a screening of the film at the DGA Theater in New York,

Zala spoke with director Braden King about filming radical.
