to bring Radical Joy, the theme for this year, to the band Chelle and Prospect Park at this year's

Brick Celebrate Brooklyn Summer Concert Series along with Sheila E,

Liz Fair, Sleader Kinney, Common, and many more. So joining us now to preview the season for

our last few minutes today and unpack this theme, this year's theme of Radical Joy is West Jackson,

president of Brick. Hey, Wes, welcome back to WNYC. It's a pleasure to be here, Brian.

It's beyond an hour. Longtime listener, first time guess, as they say.

Glad you're on. Why Radical Joy as a theme for this year? Well, you know, these are tough times

that we're living in depending on wherever you're sort of coming from. So what we wanted to do with

celebrate this year was to create a place of safety. I know your guest early was talking about

using the word sanctuary that we've used as well. So this idea of radical joy is somewhere

where you can go out to the band shell, be together, and at least for a few

hours, not worry about the worries, the various worries that may be in your life.

And then be safe.

Be safe to dance.

Be safe to sing along.

Dance like no one is watching.

And safe to be with each other in community.

And that's essentially the thought behind radical joy.

You mentioned Patty LaBelle, her show on June 26th is being described as a first for Celebrate

Brooklyn booking a major artist directly without a corporate promoter. What does that mean?
