Hey, everybody. Welcome to Pillars. I am Dylan Bowman here with a special bonus episode to take you into the weekend,

maybe accompany you on a workout or long run in the next couple of days. This is a race

director roundtable featuring Jamil Curry from Ara Viper Running, Skip Brand of the Lake

Sonoma 50, and Brendan Madigan from the

Broken Arrow Sky Race. We recorded this conversation live on YouTube a couple nights ago and are

putting it here in the OG podcast feed for those who prefer the audio listening experience. And the reason I reached out to

these three guys was pretty simple. Jamil, of course, is a well-known character in the sport and

his race organization recently put on the Black Canyon 100K, a very important early season race in Arizona, which took place on Saturday,

February 13th. And Jamil and his team put together an amazing live feed from the race.

And though it did have some COVID restrictions, COVID precautions built in, it genuinely gave me hope finally that as a sport,

we were figuring out the model with which races could operate.

And it felt like we were finally taking steps towards resuming the events side of our amazing sport.

But just a couple of days later, the following Monday, the good vibes and a feeling of hope

that I took from digitally spectating the Black Canyon 100K was crushed when that Monday,

February 15th, both Skip and Brendan announced the postponements of their races.

Again, Lake Sonoma and Broken Arrow, respectively.

Lake Sonova is now rescheduled for Labor Day weekend in September and Broken

Arrow will take place the first weekend in October. So I figured these guys would be a great

group of people to talk to with a diverse set of experiences that we as a community could learn from.

The conversation really did help me gain a better understanding of the events business

and what these guys have been through over the last 12 months.
