But yes, followership is our universal shared experience.

For some crazy reason, we tend to be preoccupied with upward mobility.

And that's not necessarily a bad thing.

We all want to be better and grow and stretch, of course.

But what that gets translated to an organizational life is that everybody wants to be a leader.

Everybody's trying to get to the top.

And in reality, yeah.

And whether you are or not, nobody is ultimately at the extreme top.

Nobody.

Everyone has a leader in their life.

And we all have that shared experience.

So there are people that that are not leaders, but they're followers.

But there are no leaders who have not been or who are not currently followers.

Now, that doesn't mean they follow well.

One of the points I'm making the book is leadership and followership are two very different competencies.
